1. HIKE WITH YOUR KIDS
If you do not have much or any experience with hiking trails – it might sound a little intimidating. Especially with your kids. But in reality – it can be a super easy and enjoyable activity!
Adjust your hike to your ambition level. Find a closeby park to explore or an easy family walk trail near you! Stay for fika (a Swedish expression for the activity of drinking coffee/tea along with something sweet to chew) next to a lake and enjoy the view. Talk about what you see. Make it a game to find different animals and trees. Collect stones and other items and make a collage! Take it step by step, listen to your needs as you go along and be flexible.
THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND FOR A SMOOTH WINTER ADVENTURE:
2. BUILD A SNOWMAN
This is a very accessible, creative and fun activity! You only need to find an area where to build your snowmen, comfortable clothing and warm boots! Go out to your garden if you have one, a snow covered grass field around the corner or a close by forest.
To make it more exciting – bring carrots or potatoes for noses and pick stones and things to create buttons. Create whatever decoration you feel like at home before hand and bring it with you! Preferrably different foods, that will molder by itself and not interfere with nature – unless you plan on bringing it back home.
Make it a contest! Each person makes their own snowman and then everybody rates them all. The winner gets to chose what you eat for dinner!
3. GO ICE SKATING
Find a closeby ice rink and test your balance with ice skates! This is such a fun activity, even if you might fall at times. But that will only give the rest of the group a good laugh. Bring a thermos with hot chocolate, snacks and put on your comfortable winter boots to exchange to when you have had enough of the ice skates – and get going!
Indoor ice rinks usually have skates available to rent if you do not have your own – and some organized outdoor rinks do. Have a look around and find one near you.
Mix it up and play freeze skate! Works just as the game freeze dance, but on ice. The way it works is you play music, and randomly stop it. Every time the music stops, you all must freeze and stop on the ice. As you can imagine this can be a bit difficult and very much fun. The last one to freeze is out of the game. Or just skip the last part if you do not want it to be competitive!
Enjoying nature together this way can be a beautiful experience. Introduce nature to your kids when they are young and they will carry it with them in life.
